Making Much of Marriage

Making Much of Marriage

Groom and Bride

Marriage is the oldest human institution. It didn’t come as a result of tradition, the Church didn’t invent it, nor is it something reserved for conservative Christians. Marriage was established and designed by God. The Bible provides clarity concerning the definition of marriage being between a man and a woman with the purpose of procreation (Gen. 1:28a), pleasure (Proverbs 5:18-19), partnership (Gen. 2:18) and productivity (Gen. 1:28).

In God’s wise and wonderful design of marriage, He created an arena in which the couple can experience the benefits and blessings that are sexual, social and spiritual in nature. Together, they can be an enterprise that can function and accomplish things to the glory of God. Of course, every Christian is to view their life as an opportunity to live under the Lordship of Christ and declare His excellencies in word and deed. But marriage is the bringing together of two people in covenantal faithfulness.

The union between a man and women in marriage is not to be viewed as just another type of human relationships. It is to be seen as something that God designed and defined. There is a true dignity to marriage and it is something worth making much of. Regardless of the numerous attacks society brings against marriage, marriage remains a God ordained initiative and institution. When practiced according to His blueprint (Eph. 5:22-33; Col. 3:18-19; 1 Pet. 3:1-7), the couple will experience the beautiful sexual, social and spiritual benefits. This will bring great glory to God and good to our society.

Marriage, as defined by the Word of God is something worth making much of! Praise God for it and celebrate it.
